Welcome back

Let's just say I've been taking a crochet sabbatical.  I haven't picked up a hook this entire year.  Last year I did so many blankets that I think I burned out.  Instead, I've been working on an intricate cross stitch that is taking forever (and now is on hold with a new baby in the house).

However, a baby shower invitation got me thinking again about crochet.  I just love giving homemade baby gifts.   There's something special about the thought and effort to make something that hopefully will become an heirloom.  So after perusing my books and online patterns I settled for a blanket called Crisscross.  After 3 rows, it was going too slowly and took too much effort so I frogged it down to the chain and switched to Picots and Stripes.

Eureka!  This is a fantastic pattern.  It works up quickly and has a terrific texture.  What I like best is it's super easy to keep the edges straight when turning.  I think this will be my new go-to baby blanket pattern.

On a side note, you'll notice there are no picot stitches (oh yeah, there are no stripes either...so much for the pattern name).  For the edging I did one row of single crochet and two rows of half-double crochet.

Pattern: Picots and Stripes from Make One For Baby by Tippett
Yarns: Bernat Baby Soft White; Loops & Threads Fresh Green
Hook: 3.75mm
Lessons Learned: It's okay to change your mind, frog what you're doing and try something else!
