The birthday crochet projects are finally winding down. This nifty lion pattern comes from one of my Japanese books. I really need to get translations of the titles and authors so I can give proper credit to these doodlers. I slightly changed the face and the overall color scheme from the pattern.
One of the challenges was figuring out the loop stitch. Since I can't read Japanese and couldn't figure out the pictures, I turned to the internet for help. Nexstitch.com has a good tutorial. It's basically a fancy single crochet. Once you get the hang of it, it works up quickly and looks fantastic.
The lion turned out a lot bigger than expected, but then again lions are supposed to be big and impressive. E.Y.'s parents say he drags it all around and they've named him Leopold. Happy 1st birthday E.Y.!

Leopold is famous!!! I like the photo of him playing the piano. I suspected that he was a very talented lion :)
It's fun to see your other projects too, great idea to blog about them!
